About Me

Hello! My name is Yash Kulkarni, an undergraduate computer engineering major and aerospace engineering minor at Georgia Tech. From a suburb by Seattle, I came to Atlanta seeking opportunities to grow as an engineer and start paving my career path. I've always had an affinity for air/spacecrafts, robots, computers, and electronics, so I deliberetly chose my fields of study so I can work on innovating in those areas for my whole life. As I concentrate in robotics and computer architecture and continue learning about aerospace engineering through my minor, I hope to one day build the controls for the next rover on Mars, avionics system for the next rocket, or computer to go on the next satellite. Until then, I am continuing working on projects that allow me to creatively put my learning into practice, working towards internships that give me exposure to my vast subject, and fostering innovation within my college community.

Apart from my career goals, I also continue working on things I'm passionate in Atlanta. From volunteering at animal shelters to going out on backpacking adventures, I stay involved with what I've grown to love doing as I grew up. I will continue doing what I love while working towards my career goals so I can also do what I love for a living.

Career Goals Timeline

My end goal is to be able to work in the aerospace industry as a computer engineer for autonomous systems. But before I design the computing system for an autonomous rover, there's still many things I need to do before I get there.

I came into Georgia Tech with transfer credits due to dual enrollment, so currently, I'm planning on pursuing the BS/MS program in four years.

First Year of College

During my first year, my primary goal was to get used to college courses and to find out what I want to specialize in. I decided to specialize in robotics and computing hardware and emerging architectures. I also declared my aerospace engineering minor.

I also wanted to get involved in some things out of school in Atlanta. I volunteered at the Atlanta Humane Society once and went on outdoor trips with Georgia Tech's outdoor recreation organization (ORGT).

I'm also searching for internships to get real professional experience and to be able to apply all I've learned in my first year.

Second Year of College

Having decided my concentrations, I plan on taking courses in those concentrations. I also plan on taking courses required for my Aerospace Engineering minor. I will also formally apply to the BS/MS program as I will have taken the required courses to do so. I also plan on being a Teaching Assistant for one of the technical ECE courses I took in my first year.

I also plan on being involved in some co-curriculars. I plan on joining the Yellow Jacket Space Program, where I can directly apply ECE to an aerospace project. I also plan on expanding my extracurriculars from my first year by volunteering at AHS every week and by going on more outdoor trips with ORGT.

My primary professional goal is to get an internship on a project more related to the Aerospace Engineering field over the summer before my third year.

Third Year of College

I plan on completing all of my required courses to graduate and my aerospace engineering minor courses. I would either like to participate in a research assistantship if I'm interested or a teaching assistantship this year. I also plan on continuing my work with my co-curriculars and extracurriculars.

My primary professional goal is also to get an internship on an Aerospace Engineering project over the summer.

Fourth Year of College

I plan on completing my graduate level courses needed to graduate this year. Currently, I'm not planning on pursuing the thesis option, but that may change based on my experiences in college.

I aim to hold at least one leadership position in any of the organizations I'm passionate about and working in.

With all of my experiences in organizations, schools, internships, and assistantships, I hope to achieve my overall goal after this year by getting a full time job in the aerospace engineering industry working on autonomous systems as a computer engineer.

Skills

Through the things I've done and experiences I had, I've developed these important skills:

Technical: Java, Python, C, Engineering Design, Digital Design

Non-Technical: Project Management, Teamwork, Leadership, Quick Learning, Working under stress
